Calvary Baptist Church was first called Philadelphia Christian Church in 1889 and later in 1914 became known as Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, and moved to it’s current location.
In the summer of 1942 Rev. Ralph J. Bowles of Winder, conducted a revival in the empty church building, and on Sunday, August 16, 1942 Calvary Baptist Church was organized and Rev. Bowles was called as its first pastor and served until 1944. Rev. P. B. Cash 1944-52, Rev. Paul Freeman 1952-1963, Rev. Bunyan Taylor 1963-65, Rev. Paul Freeman 1965- 68, Rev. Carl Ferguson Jan. 68 April 6, Rev. David Ash 1969-73, and Rev. Ronald Healan was called in On May 30, 1973 to become the seventh Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church
Under Dr. Healan’s ministry, Calvary became an Independent Baptist Church, grew in body and spirit and as a result of that growth the church moved into our new facility on September 21, 2008. Dr. Healan served the Lord faithfully until he went home to be with the Lord in February of 2021.
On April 11, 2021, the torch was passed to Bro. Matt Dibler to become the eighth Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Dibler was the long time Minister of Music at CBC, so is no stranger to Statham, GA or the CBC congregation. Pastor Dibler guided the congregation through the death of a pastor and the COVID 19 epidemic to a church that continues to grow for the glory of God! We are so thankful to have him leading us through these difficult and trying times and look forward to the future that God has for us.
We are grateful for the heritage the Lord has given our church, yet we have not forgotten that we must continue to serve the Lord fervently. God has been good to us, and we are praying with great expectation for the Lord to do something special at Calvary Baptist Church in the days to come.
